The Mendocino Coast of California once grew massive redwood trees like weeds. The trees were often so large [6 feet or more on the stump] that they were frequently blown apart using explosives. As much of the land was cleared sheep set upon the land. Fences of redwood were made from the fragments of once majestic trees. I find myself often returning to this unique demarcation in my drawings of the coast.
