"Charcoal Machines" is an on-going series of charcoal drawings that are created on 11x14 inch paper. They are an attempt to explore discovery within "automatic writing" style marks with the side of a charcoal stick. These initial marks are then elaborated on with the tip of the charcoal stick and then, in the final stage, shading is added to develop dimension between the charcoal marks and the negative space of the paper.
