The story of Africans in America is unique to all of America's stories. Except that it is a human story -- with the full spectrum of joyousness and tragedy, triumph and defeat-- the uniqueness of the Africans-in-America story is such that it cannot be closely compared to the stories of other Americans. Yet its uniqueness does not make it more inspiring or debilitating, nor more or less important in the fabric of America's story. The uniqueness of the story of Africans in America does make it a joy to tell. My telling of that story happens here.
