These paintings are all of acrylic works on canvas. I build up the surface of the canvas with multiple layers, mingling colors and textures to create depth and mystery. Horizontal bands of color, no matter how abstract, generally read as landscapes for most of us. Pure color, by itself, has the ability to stir emotions. When painted as an implied landscape, each color combination also has the ability to trigger memory. To me, the painting should be suggestive enough to be easily accessible, yet abstract enough to allow for an individual response. I want the viewer’s personal reaction to fluctuate depending on the distance, the lighting and the mood, thereby creating an intimate and changing dialogue.
